prairie porn

Prairie Porn at the Green Room this Thursday!

Prairie Porn is known to embrace all aspects of porn and prairie, so we have that in common. They’re currently working on a new album, which they hope is out this summer, but until then you can hear their breed of garage rock by clicking play below. They took a moment to chat about their influences and current favorites, so keep on readin’ on to learn more – then come out to the show!

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Starting off we were really into the SanFran garage punk scene– bands like Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall. This was all wrapped up in more classic favorites like the Pixies and the Stones. There’s obviously a big female inspiration too– Joan Jett… Kim Deal and the Breeders.

What is some music worth sharing? Something new? Local favorites?

We originated in the suburbs of Elgin actually where we’ve got our own little music scene. Some friends of ours include Red Deer Cave People, Tea, & Cave Tree.

In the city I’m a big fan of the Sueves, Today’s Hits, Thee Yolks, Uh Bones, the Rubs, Strange Faces.

little fires

Little Fires Headline the Green Room Tomorrow!

I’m not sure what you’re doing Saturday, but Little Fires are spending the day recording at Bloodline studio in Humboldt Park, and the night bringing their power pop/garage rock/surf/punk sounds to the stage at Abbey Pub’s Green Room. Get prepared to dance, cause it’s hard to keep still once you hit play. I’m serious. Give it a go below, and see for yourself. Read on to learn who influenced the band and who they’re listening to now, and then come out tomorrow!

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

We all have different tastes, but some bands we all like are The Beatles, The Strokes, Jay Reatard, Ramones, and Thin Lizzy.

What is some music worth sharing? Something new? Local favorites?

A new band called Radioactivity, out of Denton TX, is one of our recent favorites. The band includes members of The Marked Men and Bad Sports, two other great bands. Locally, we are fans of Today’s Hits, and Blue Meanies are a classic.
