As we roll through the year, I’m trying to collect all the 2017 Chicago releases I can find on Spotify. At about a day long, you’ll find music from folks like Crown Larks, The Bingers, Meat Wave, The Rubs, Mykele Deville, White Mystery, Joey Purp, NE-HI, Michelles, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, and more.
I like to throw this mix on shuffle when I’m doing lifestuffs and see who catches my ear. It’s an easy way to hear what’s happening and find someone new. Give it a whirl, and if you find someone you like go check out a show!
Also, if you see something missing please let me know.
I have never seen so many bands I LOVE listed on one poster before. Spread across three days and three venues, this fest promises to be your best bet on how you should spend your time and money this weekend. Click the pic to learn more, then come out!
Prairie Porn is known to embrace all aspects of porn and prairie, so we have that in common. They’re currently working on a new album, which they hope is out this summer, but until then you can hear their breed of garage rock by clicking play below. They took a moment to chat about their influences and current favorites, so keep on readin’ on to learn more – then come out to the show!
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Starting off we were really into the SanFran garage punk scene– bands like Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall. This was all wrapped up in more classic favorites like the Pixies and the Stones. There’s obviously a big female inspiration too– Joan Jett… Kim Deal and the Breeders.
What is some music worth sharing? Something new? Local favorites?
We originated in the suburbs of Elgin actually where we’ve got our own little music scene. Some friends of ours include Red Deer Cave People, Tea, & Cave Tree.
In the city I’m a big fan of the Sueves, Today’s Hits, Thee Yolks, Uh Bones, the Rubs, Strange Faces.

looking glass doesn’t have a show tonight, so I’m fully endorsing your decision to head here. LOTS of bands I know and love, including Mr. Ma’am! They’re playing early and should hit the stage at 7:30, so be sure to get there on time. AND, there’s free beer while it lasts, so another reason earlier is better. Click HERE for more details.
