Swim Ignorant Fire Show this Saturday!

Swim Ignorant Fire’s experiments with sound create a light, ambient space that can carry you off to another time and place. You’re tempted to close your eyes to focus on hearing the subtle, layered pieces buried inside. Together, it’s a very full, empty sound that’s a must hear. The video below is for the first track off his latest album, Belly of the Whale, and is a great introduction to his sound.

What is some music worth sharing? Something new? Local favorites?

My favorite local act right now is MT Coast. We play tons of shows together, and he’s doing amazing things in the experimental ambient scene in Chicago.

This Saturday the Green Room offers a cosmic experience, starting with The Variable Why. Hit play below, and prepare yourself for an ambient soundscape that removes your weight and carries you to the center of the universe. Soon enough, we’ll have a visual alongside this trip, as they’re currently working on a video project based on images taken from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on the Solar Dynamics Observatory. Definitely looking forward to that!

What is some music worth sharing? Something new? Local favorites?

Chicago-based Landmarks just released a new self-titled EP. I like their atmospheric pop tones and I look forward to seeing their sound evolve.

I love the hypnotic song cycles and lyrical aggression of Swans. All the records they have made since their resurrection have been fantastic and I can hardly wait to hear their new album.
