Chicago’s The Drafts make indie rock and roll noise, and you can hear ’em open the show tonight at The Green Room. They’re currently working on recording an album, due out later this year, and you can hear a bit of what that will sound like by clicking play below to hear their latest single “Tuned In.” Check it out, then come on out!
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
A lot of our influence comes from ‘90s indie rock. Bands like Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Modest Mouse’s early stuff etc. are some of my favorites. We’ve also really been influenced by punk and post-punk, with bands like Wire, The Replacements, The Fall, Fugazi, etc. all being a major source of inspiration.
What is some music worth sharing? Something new? Local favorites?
I’m not sure whether you mean new music I’ve been listening to a lot lately or Chicago bands so I’ll do both. I’ve been blasting the new Parquet Courts album all summer, it’s too good. Protomartyr’s new record is pretty great too. I really dig Sun Kil Moon‘s new release too, I love his songwriting style. As far as Chicago bands go, Strange Faces has a really good garage-rock and punk sound, they put on a great show too. They put out a great new single recently. Old Guard is another one, they’re like a cross between The Walkmen and The National; they’ve got tons of emotion. It’s a sound that is pretty uncharacteristic of a lot of what you hear in this city, which is awesome.
